Hi, my name is Jana Russick and I have been a Vivacity Intern for six months. On April 22nd at 6 pm, I had my third annual spring Fashion Show, hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University, at Port Pavilion Pier in downtown San Diego. I put together 8 looks, most of which I sewed myself. This year my fashion line was inspired by the 1980’s, my favorite fashion decade, as well as the feathered robes worn by screen starlets in the 50’s and 60’s. My gorgeous models strutted down the runway to “Everywhere”, by Fleetwood Mac, in front of a large crowd of students from our school as well as my family who came down to see the show. My favorite pieces that I created were a voluminous pink top made of layered polka dot pink tulle worn by Jade (pictured left), a salmon-colored chiffon robe that was embellished with black feathers worn by Katie (pictured center), and a polka dot top layered with hot pink tulle and the navy and black skirt with peplum tulle that went with it worn by Meagan (pictured right):
I had so much fun doing this line. I wanted to focus on creating looks with interesting and wild patterns and colors while keeping the silhouettes fairly simple. My aesthetic is to excite the eye with different textures while keeping the actual structure of the clothing fairly simple and flattering. I believe my aesthetic is very similar to Vivacity’s– we both strategically use different shapes and cuts that complement, rather than overwhelm, the frame. I have loved interning at Vivacity because I get to use my creativity and imagination for every project I work on. In the future, I hope to be a fashion designer and I’m so glad to have gotten the opportunity to work with Vivacity’s designer, Christina, as well as with Vivacity’s CEO Vivian, who has taught me the ins and outs of running a business. This is a picture of all my models, my design assistant Christian (pictured farthest left), and I (pictured sitting).
