In case you hadn’t heard, at the MET Gala on May 2nd, British actress and activist Emma Watson walked the red carpet wearing a black and white gown made of eco-friendly fabric derived from plastic bottles.
According to a post on Nature World New’s website:
This year, Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology is the theme of the MET Gala ….the fusion of technology and fashion. The famous feminist, activist and actress had the most environment-friendly interpretation of what a futuristic dress is…. a dress made of recycled water bottle which she co-created with Calvin Klein and EcoAge.
Emma also wrote on her Facebook page:
“Being able to repurpose this waste and incorporate it into my gown for the #MetGala proves the power that creativity, technology, and fashion can have by working together.”
Of course we at Vivacity love hearing this. In fact one of our favorite new fabrics is our eco-friendly recycled PET® fabric made of recycled polyester derived from plastic bottles! This fabric is soft, lightweight, and easy to care (machine wash/hang dry).
We’ve integrated this eco-friendly fabric into our latest jackets, tops and skorts.
We love this recycled fabric so much that in our upcoming collection, we’ve created an adorable eco-friendly dress with our new original print. Here’s a sneak peek of our upcoming Amelie Dress in our recycled poly/spandex fabric:
So who says it’s not possible to pursue sustainability through the fabrics and trims used in fashion? We applaud forward thinkers and action takers like Emma Watson who highlight such important issues such as plastic pollution by showcasing one solution right on the red carpet.
At Vivacity we are thrilled to work with responsible vendors that provide new technologies to make fabric derived from recycled materials a reality!
Now let’s try to make this an everyday occurrence, not just on the red carpet.
